I joined Rolls-Royce as a Graduate Trainee after gaining a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Whilst on the scheme, I completed placements in a broad range of areas, gaining experience in the Product Marketing, Stress, Performance, Experimental & Component Design teams. On completion of the Graduate Training Scheme, my first substantive role was as a Component Design Engineer, where I was involved in a number of projects for a variety of in-service gas turbine engines, investigating and introducing improvement initiatives through component design and manufacture. I also worked on the design of components for concept demonstrators and new products, and also have been the Integrated Project Team Leader for multi-discipline teams for a variety of projects in order to deliver design solutions to resolve in-service and production issues.

After about 5 years as a Component Design Engineer, I moved into a Systems Design role, working on a variety of engine programmes and more recently have been working on future engine concept design. I’ve been responsible for the technical integration and development of preliminary design of two new engines: my responsibilities in these projects have been wide-ranging and spanned a number of disciplines, including: leading technical packages of work; design of Systems; requirements elicitation & Systems Engineering; design studies; failure analysis; design studies & architectural design.
